Man sentenced for tax fraud

SAN JOSE -- A San Jose court has handed down a sentence to a man who tried to defraud the IRS. 71 months is how long 35-year-old Seth Sundberg of San Mateo will spend in prison after he had pleaded guilty to charges of mail fraud, filing a false tax return and false claims against the United States.

He was also ordered to pay almost $2.5 million in restitution.

Sundberg was arrested last fall after he had filed a tax return in which he claimed he paid almost $6 million in taxes on an Original Issue Discount. The return caught the attention of the IRS after it showed a refund of more than $5 million.
