Tong arrested for pepper spray incident
SANTA CLARA -- Vietnamese freedom fighter Ly Tong was arrested during a concert at the Santa Clara Convention Center Sunday night. He is accused of assaulting a singer from Vietnam.
Police say Tong went to the event dressed as a woman and worked his way through the audience to get to the stage close to the end of the show. He reportedly offered a flower to Hung Vinh Dam and then pepper-sprayed him.
There was a brief evacuation of the Convention Center while ventilation was taking place. The concert later resumed.
The 61-year-old is known for his anti-communist activism and went on a hunger strike to push San Jose officials to designate an area as Little Saigon. The motive for the alleged attack has not been revealed.
No one was seriously hurt in the incident.
