SAN JOSE -- The City of San Jose is going to take a look at updating its sign ordinance on Tuesday. The San Jose City Council is set to discuss a review of eight recommendations by the city's planning staff.
This will mark the first time since 1992 that the ordinance has faced a major overhaul.
The list includes permitting the presence of so-called "supergraphic signs," which are displays on blank walls that are in place for no more than 60 days. The council will also look at allowances for digital and electronic signs for large shopping centers and downtown San Jose.
However, it won't all be changes. The staff is proposing that the current ban on billboards remain in place.
