SANTA CLARA COUNTY -- Starting in March, fishing at some local waterways will be banned. Local fisherman have enjoyed throwing a line at the Calaveras Reservoir in the hills above Milpitas for years, but after a recent decision from state Fish and Game, that will all end.
Fishing also has been banned along most of Alameda Creek and the tributaries south of the San Antonio Reservoir near Sunol. The year-round closures begin on March 1st and the Superior Courts for both Santa Clara and Alameda counties are currently setting punishments for fishing violators.
Supporters of the move say it will protect steelhead and rainbow trout populations that have been making a comeback there over the last decade.
