Injured football player recovery chances in the air
SAN JOSE -- The recovery of a high school football player in San Jose with a severe head injury remains uncertain. 16-year-old Matt Blea is still in critical and unstable condition at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center.
The coach for the San Jose Academy football team said Blea had a hairline fracture in his skull that required him to be in surgery for several hours.
In the meantime, some of his fellow teammates, students and teachers held an impromptu gathering Friday at the Olinder Community Center. Many expressed shock over the incident in which Blea was hit by a member of the Lincoln High School team during a play in the Thanksgiving Day game.
Even though Blea was able to get up and walk to the sideline, he collapsed moments later.
