Deputies search for witnesses in fatal Cupertino crash

CUPERTINO -- Sheriff's detectives in Cupertino are looking for new witnesses in an October fatal car accident that left a 5-year-old boy dead.

The driver who killed the boy claims it was an accident. Deputies aren't so sure.

The boy was killed shortly after being dropped off at a Chinese school on South De Anza Boulevard, on the afternoon of Oct. 15.

His classmates initially told deputies that the driver fled the scene after hitting the boy.

Deputies say they need another witness to come forward, because the evidence against the driver isn't strong enough to take the case to court.
