Local Congressional Representatives vote on health care package

WASHINGTON, DC -- Silicon Valley's members of the House of Representatives say they are happy with the recently passed health care bill, which includes the public option. All Silicon Valley Democrats voted in favor of the bill which passed on a mostly partisan vote 220 to 215.

In a written statement San Jose Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren says while not perfect, this legislation will help extend insurance coverage to an estimated 96% of Americans.

Fremont Congressman Pete Stark called the vote the most important of his career. He says he is proud to have helped author this legislation which will finally guarantee affordable quality health care to every American.

House Republican Leader John Boehner says the bill increases costs, adds to our skyrocketing debt, destroys jobs with tax hikes and new mandates, and cuts seniors’ Medicare benefits.

39 Democrats voted against, one Republican voted in favor. The bill now moves to the Senate.
