SAN JOSE -- Thousands of people waited in line for the H1N1 flu vaccine at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds in San Jose Saturday. However, as anticipated by County officials, there were not enough doses for everyone who showed up.
There were only 5,500 doses of the vaccine on hand. The line stretched for nearly a half mile, from the Fairgrounds gate to Senter Road. Many of those showed up hours before the posted start time of 9:30am.
Many were turned away because they were not in the at-risk category. Those considered at-risk are pregnant women, young people between 6 months and 24 years old, adults with chronic medical conditions, and people who live with or provide care for infants.
Another clinic has been scheduled for next Sunday at the Fairgrounds.
