East Side Union High School District dismisses Superintendent

SAN JOSE -- The three month controversy of East Side Union High School District Superintendent Bob Nunez is over. After a number of closed doors meetings, the Board of Trustees have ended his employment in the district's top leadership position. Nunez will get a year's severance pay and has agreed to donate half of the $225,000 back to the school district.

After district trustees decided to terminate Nunez, board president Patricia Martinez-Roach said the panel did not believe he had done anything intentionally to harm the district. She went on to say both Nunez and the board agreed on the ouster because the situation created an unnecessary distraction for students, parents and faculty.

Nunez faced accusations of improper use of a district credit card. His $50,000 cash out of vacation pay in the midst of a budget crisis did not sit well with parents, either.
