SAN JOSE - Relief efforts are underway among the South Bay's Samoan community following Tuesday's deadly tsunami back in their homeland. Senior Pastor Ben Lepisi of the First Samoan Assemblies of God Church on Capitol Avenue in San Jose said one of his pastors lost a first-cousin in the disaster as the man couldn't make it to high ground in time.
Lepisi said they are accepting donations of money, shippable foodstuffs, clothes and other items they can send to the islands that have been affected. He is asking those wishing to donate to call the church at (408)272-3636 to make arrangements. (Please note: KLIV has not confirmed the status of this charitable endeavor but can confirm the church phone number and Reverend Lepisi as its pastor.)
Other churches are launching their own relief efforts and the Samoan Civic Association of San Jose is also believed to be making relief arrangements.
