SAN JOSE - A San Jose teenager has been sentenced to 18 years in prison after pleading guilty to a gang-related attack at Oak Grove High School last year.
17-year old Claudia Montalbo stabbed a girl last may on campus after the victim was said to have called Montalbo a "buster." That's a derogatory term describing members of the Norteno street gang.
Montalbo's attorney agreed to the plea deal because she could have been given a life sentence had she been convicted with the gang enhancement in court.
As it is, she must serve at least 80%of the 18-year prison term. She also owes $47,000 in restitution.
The victim was stabbed ten times but has recovered.
