GENETIC TESTING PROGRAM LAUNCHING IN SILICON VALLEY
Mountain View - A major genetic testing program will be up and running this week as the Genomic Medicine Institute begins operations at El Camino Hospital in Mountain View. The institute is the first of its kind in the nation and will provide patients access to a dozen DNA tests designed to study their future health risks.
Jon Friedenberg, who is heading up the institute, says an infrastructure is being set up at El Camino so that a platform of support for doctors and patients will be in place as genomic medicine continues to grow over the next few years.
Doctors ill connect patients with a dozen DNA tests designed to study a patient's future health risks. The hospital is also providing counselors to get patients emotionally ready for the tests, as well as help them deal with the results.
The Genomic Medicine Institute officially launches Thursday.
