SILICON VALLEY LEADERS WANT NEW STATE CONSTITUTION
San Jose - Some of Silicon Valley's most high profile public figures would like to see California's current constitution thrown out in order to get a fresh start. The board of directors of Joint Venture Silicon Valley Network has voted unanimously to join several other public affairs groups from across the state in calling for a new state Constitutional Convention.
Joint Venture CEO Russell Hancock says the group is a mainstream organization representing a mainstream point of view. He says a survey of average Californians show they no longer have faith in the state institutions of in the ability of the system to deliver government. He said the findings of that poll would be coming out soon.
Hancock says the recent state budget standoff is a symptom of a broken government that is hurting Silicon Valley. He says the state needs to work to have certain things in place, like transporation, education, and communication infrastructures, to be a strong, thriving, innovative region
Joint Venture is hosting a conference in Sacramento next week where details of the proposed constitutional convention will be discussed.
