GREEN BUS MANUFACTURER WORKING TO SET UP IN SAN JOSE
An effort is underway to bring an electric bus manufacturing plant to San Jose. Proterra, a company from Colorado, has begun a statewide tour at San Jose City Hall hoping to attract school districts and transit systems to buy fleets of its Eco-Ride BE 35 buses.
John Weis with the San Jose Redevelopment Agency thinks this could be just the right time to support the project as economic stimulus money could become available for projects like a zero emissions bus. He says a large part of the proposed stimulus is clean energy aimed at corporations
The RDA has been speaking with Proterra CEO Dale Hill for a few years. Weis says Hill has been spending a lot of time looking for clients to make orders. The city's interest would be in filling those orders with a plant in San Jose.
San Jose's Redevelopment Agency hopes Proterra can get federal help to build a manufacturing plant for its electric buses in San Jose or, at least, that there is money for agencies to buy the buses to cut down on greenhouse gases.
