KIDNAPPING SUSPECT TURNS SELF IN

San Jose - A man who was wanted by San Jose police for allegedly kidnapping a young girl Tuesday morning has turned himself in. The San Jose Police Department says 24-year-old Mark Porter surrendered to authorities Tuesday night at the city's main jail.

Porter allegedly abducted Kayla Montez from Holly Oak Elementary School after 8:30am. The reported abduction set off an Amber Alert, which was broadcast on a number of media outlets. After a number of contacts with officers over the next several hours, he dropped her off at a fast food restaurant on Camden Avenue. Montez was safely recovered.

Police believe Porter heard that the Amber Alert had been issued and dropped the girl off before fleeing. Porter was an acquaintance of Montez' family.
