GOOGLE WORKING FOR PROFIT

Mountain View - Google is trying to make as much money as it can, ahead of its fourth-quarter earnings report. All signs indicate the company is more focused than ever on its bottom line.

In the past two months, Google executives have cut company perks, and vowed to trim their staff of roughly 10,000 contract employees. They've put ads on Google Images, Google News and Google Finance for the first time in history, and added an estimated 75% more ads onto search result pages.

Starting this week, the company even shoehorned ads into a new search tool that guesses what users are looking for, before they're done typing the search query.

Analysts are split on whether the new focus on monetizing the product will translate into another blockbuster quarter at Google. The company releases earnings in late January.
