MEASURE B COULD LEAD TO A'S
|
Fremont - The Oakland Athletics may have more incentive to move the team to Fremont, now that Measure B has passed. The one-eighth of a cent sales tax increase to fund a proposed BART extension to San Jose has created a new wrinkle in the search for a new ballpark location.
A proposed BART hub for the Warm Springs area appears to be of interest to Lew Wolff, the owner of the A's. Team officials have been trying to find a different location for the proposed ballpark village following criticism that the original site may create traffic difficulties. Concerns involved it being too far away from Fremont's current BART station and expected gridlock on 880 and Fremont city streets on game days.
Team officials will be meeting with the BART Board of Directors to determine how the two organizations will be able to work together if the A's decide to move to Fremont. A decision on the location of the proposed ballpark is expected to come by early in 2009.
