The Second Winter Spare the Air Alert of the season has been declared by the Bay Area Air Quality Management District. Spokesperson Lisa Fasano says that there is a lot of particulate matter in the air and are staying around because of very light winds in the area and is causing unhealthy conditions.
As a result of the alert, wood burning is prohibited under law. Violators face written warnings for the first offense and fines for repeat offenses.
Fasano adds that conditions are such that another Spare the Air could be declared for Tuesday as well as the pattern is expected to continue.
