MAYOR DENIED SPEECH AT CHAMBER

San Jose - A request by Mayor Chuck Reed to address the San Jose Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce has been turned down.

Mayor Reed hoped to drum up the Chamber's support for the proposed BART tax on the November ballot during a monthly meeting that included discussion of upcoming ballot measures. If passed, Measure B would increase the sales tax in Santa Clara County an extra one eighth of a cent to fund the extension to San Jose.

However, the Mayor's request was declined. A Chamber committee ruled that no outside speakers would be allowed to address the meeting.

While many in the business community support Measure B, several high-profile opponents hold key positions in the Chamber including current and former board members Bill Baron and Rick DiNapoli.
