There are many good reasons why more people travel out of San Francisco Airport than from our airport in San Jose. But, given a choice, I certainly prefer the local airport - and that's not just because it's local.
By way of making my point, let me invite you to listen to a recording of something that everybody who listens to Radio Station KLIV is likely to hear on almost any given morning:
McLEOD: No general departure or origin delays
at Mineta San Jose International Airport, but up
the road at SFO, because of fog and overcast,
they're experiencing delays of about 47 minutes.
That's KLIV's John McLeod, who not only gives regular traffic reports, but also tells us about airline delays. Clearly, San Jose Airport - even with today's huge rebuilding activities - is significantly more dependable as a starting point for almost any airline trip. The weather is a normal problem that afflicts SFO, but not SJC.
It's my guess that, despite John McLeod's almost daily reminders, most travelers out of Silicon Valley assume that departing from SFO should be their first choice.
They might profitably think first about starting their trip from the San Jose Airport.
