VA MAKES EXPANSION PLANS FOR SILICON VALLEY

Mountain View - The war in Iraq is forcing the Veterans Administration to make expansion plans in the Silicon Valley.

They've announced purchases of former military buildings at Moffett Field to be converted to VA offices. That will free up space at their Palo Alto campus to be used for expansion of patient services.

The billion dollar plan includes new hospitals for brain trauma, psychiatry and ambulatory care. It should take three years to complete the new facilities.

The VA is putting a crimp in Sunnyvale's plans as they hoped for a 20 acre hotel and conference site and an auto mall at Moffett Field. However, the VA gets first pick of unused facilities.
