Last week the Mercury News informed readers of the contradictions between what City Council candidate Pierluigi Oliverio has been saying ... and what his actual record is. And the editorial department, having endorsed Oliverio's candidacy before the primary, now switched its support to candidate Steve Tedesco.
An appropriate action -- not only because of the paper's own disclosures about Oliverio's credibility, but, equally important, because of Tedesco's superior experience. Indeed, some of us who support Tedesco believe he's one of the most qualified candidates for city council in many, many years.
But many absentee ballots have already been returned to the Registrar of Voters. Indeed, about 25% of the total number of anticipated voters have cast their ballots without knowing about the Mercury News disclosures. So Tedesco is hardly a shoo-in. He needs help.
How about the other endorsers of Oliverio -- people who, like the Mercury News, should be giving further thought to this District Six election. Will they also change their endorsements? It makes sense that they should.
This is Robert Kieve, and that's a personal opinion.
