A proposed electric car plant for the Bay Area may not find a new location in San Jose. Tesla Motors is expected to make an announcement soon where it will put its new manufacturing operations for its Model S sedan.
Last week, Tesla pulled out of plans to build a plant in San Jose because it could not raise venture funding needed for the project. Tesla officials say they are in late-stage negotiations for a site, but haven't revealed where it's going to be.
The electric car company has shifted its focus to securing government funding to renovate an existing plant. There is no such facility in San Jose, but the city is aggressively negotiating to become the home of Tesla's headquarters, research and development, and possibly, powertrain operations.
