Sports Shorts: Red Bulls fly over Earthquakes



The San Jose Earthquakes lost to the New York Red Bulls 2-1 Wednesday night in a US Open Cup qualifier.  The Quakes are back in action Saturday night when they host Chivas U-S-A at Buck Shaw Stadium.

The San Francisco Giants beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 9-4 Wednesday night.  Bengie Molina had three hits and four RBI's in the win and Tim Lincecum picked up his second victory of the season after going seven-plus innings and striking out eight batters.  The Giants are off Thursday and host the Colorado Rockies Friday night.

The Oakland A's and Texas Rangers were rained out Wednesday.  The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader next month.  The series concludes Thursday in Arlington.

The San Jose Giants lost to the Lancaster JetHawks 4-3.  San Jose is off Thursday and will return to Municipal Stadium Friday night to begin a three-game series against the Modesto Nuts.
