San Jose extends PR contract

SAN JOSE -- A contract with a Palo Alto public relations firm was renewed by the City of San Jose to help get the word out to businesses about the benefits of Silicon Valley. The $120,000 contract with GlobalFluency Agency aims to show the city in a positive light in national and international media including business and trade journals.

During the San Jose City Council's Tuesday meeting, Economic Development Director Paul Krutko said it's all about competition. "Our competitors are spending millions of dollars to essentially lure our companies, and our talent, and our business to their locations."

Krutko said San Francisco spends $1 million a year, San Diego spends $5 million.  This contract brings the total spending with GlobalFluency to just over $500,000. However, he says his office needs to be more resourceful. "We work with a firm that looks to take our story and put that story in the hands of people writing major articles in newspapers and publications around the country."

The contract is being extended despite criticisms that results have not been measurable.
