SAN JOSE -- A half dozen Midas repair shops in Silicon Valley are in trouble with the state.
Some of the shops allegedly sold unnecessary services, lied to customers and made unethical business decisions.
The repair shops locally are in Campbell, Fremont and San Jose, and are part of a larger string of Midas franchises owned by 61-year-old Mike Glad of Modesto.
It took 3 years for investigators with the state Department of Consumer Affairs to build their case against Glad's repair shops.
In one incident, state investigators took a problem-free car to one of Glad's Midas shops in Modesto and ended up getting sold $1,800 worth of unnecessary repairs.
The shops could face a range of penalties, including having their business licenses yanked.
