PROTESTS OVER EXPIRED FOOD AT GROCERY STORE
|
San Jose - Demonstrators showed up with foods they claimed were expired when purchased from the Su Vianda grocery store on Santa Clara Street next to San Jose City Hall today.
Mojan Chavez with the Latino Families for Food Safety Coalition said they had been receiving numerous complaints about expired food at the market since it opened a few months ago. He says the group is not saying that Su Vianda is a bad store, but that the expired products can cause health problems for the community.
The coalition admitted they hadn't spoken to anyone at the store so KLIV News asked Su Vianda corporate CEO Al Lujan about the complaints. He said even though he didn't know for certain whether or not there was expired food on the shelves of the store, neither he or his management has had any complaints regarding expired products
Before the store became aware of the protest, KLIV did a random check of food items most likely to be out-of-date and found none. |
