POPULATION ON THE RISE IN SILICON VALLEY

The number of people living in Santa Clara County has increased by a wider margin than the rest of the Bay Area. This is according to the latest data released by the US Census Bureau.

The findings say that the County's population grew by an estimated 32,541 people in 2008 to 1,764,499, which represents a rise of almost 2% from 2007. The state's population, on a whole, grew by about 1%.

For the first time since 2000, every Bay Area county saw its population increase. The Census Bureau says Alameda County saw an increase of more than 20,000 people, Contra Costa County grew by more than 15,000, and San Mateo County had 11,000 more.
