Los Gatos - The Mayor of Los Gatos has made a green announcement regarding the city: Beginning immediately, the town will be able to offset 100% of carbon emissions resulting from energy use in all of the public facilities.
Barabara Spector says this is possible through the town's enrollment in PG&E's Climatesmart program. Under the program, Los Gatos allocates a portion of payments to PG&E for the preservation of old growth forests in the Santa Cruz Mountains. The idea is that preserving and planting forests offsets current carbon emissions.
Mayor Spector also had a special message for other cities in Santa Clara County. She says Los Gatos is the first jurisdiction in the county to sign up for the Climatesmart program and challenged all other cities in Silicon Valley to participate.
In addition to its participation in the Climatesmart program, the town is making further green inroads by switching to LED lights for its holiday lighting displays.
