IRISH DELEGATION TAKING IN SISTER CITY CELEBRATION
San Jose - The flags of the city of Dublin and the nation of Ireland are now flying over San Jose City Hall. They were raised in a ceremony honoring a visit by a sister city delegation from the Emerald Isle.
PJ Timmons is president of the Dublin Chamber of Commerce making his first visit to America. He says he feels right at home with the spirit of camaraderie being a little more relaxed in Silicon Valley than other parts of the country. He says that spirit is needed in innovation to created a sustainable world.
Timmons says there are a number of Silicon Valley companies with operations in Ireland, which serves as a gateway into Europe. He says it's great to see all the names and addresses of Silicon Valley companies that are on technology that he uses in Ireland. A full ten percent of Ireland's population are immigrants who have arrived in just the last few years. They are mostly from Eastern Europe, and are highly-educated workers that have helped grow Dublin's tech industry.
Timmons says Ireland has been using tax incentives and an educated immigrant work force to boost its standing in the tech world. He said that's another thing they have in common with Silicon Valley.
