GOOGLE TAKES STAND AGAINST PROP 8

Mountain View - Google is the latest company to take an official stand against Proposition 8, the November ballot measure banning gay marriage in the state of California.

Google co-founder Sergey Brin said the company normally doesn't take a stand on political issues or candidates, but wrote, "it is the chilling and discriminatory effect of the proposition on many of our employees that brings Google to publicly oppose Proposition 8."

Google has increasingly inserted itself into the political process. This year, it hosted political bloggers at the Democratic and Republican national conventions, and recently launched a new service that transcribes political speeches, allowing voters to see when their candidates are flip-flopping or going against their campaign promises.
