CHILDREN'S THEATER DIRECTOR WORKS OUT DEAL WITH PALO ALTO

Palo Alto - The city of Palo Alto has come to an agreement with the former director of Palo Alto's Children's Theater. Pat Briggs is back on the job, after she was fired for her involvement in a financial scandal at the theater.

Briggs has agreed to retire at the end of the month, and return to work as a consultant while the city looks for her replacement.

The theater was the subject of intense scrutiny this year from police and city auditors, who say they found evidence suggesting theater employees double-billed the city for expenses and used loopholes to steal money.

Still, there wasn't enough hard evidence for police to arrest or charge anyone with a crime. Briggs has been trying to work out a deal with the city to get her job back since she was fired last month.
