BROCADE ACQUIRING FOUNDRY

San Jose - Brocade Communications is making an acquisition to better compete with Cisco Systems.

Brocade is hoping to close the gap by acquiring Foundry Networks for $3 billion.

Brocade currently leads the market on  making switches used to connect servers to data storage machines, but Cisco dominates the market making routers and switches used to direct Internet traffic.

Foundry, like Cisco,  also makes equipment to direct Internet traffic.
